No date yet but I'm guessing very soon. Q1 07 or at the latest Q2 07.

The initial rumor was 1/15/07 but I guess that was false.

The manufacturers always have an aggressive goal for launching their products but they always find something that prevents them from meeting their goal so it's usually a bit later than announced.

Gotcha. Thanks. It amazes me that the 6700 is still $400 without a contract.

How does the 6800 compare to the i730?

Now that Verizon is releasing the phone as the XV6800 then I am hoping that as well as having it CDMA then it will also be a dual- or triband GSM. That would make sense as the GSM version is quadband.

If they release it with the GSM connection possibility then I'm goign for it and going for Verizon, if not, well then no Verizon.

But how likely are they to include GSM connectivity?

Chances are pretty slim that this will also support GSM.

Verizon only has that one phone from Samsung that they called "World Phone" which supported GSM and CDMA. It's not a big population that travels and uses their phone overseas, where they would need the phone to support both US standards and others, thus they usually decide not to put the extra cost of supporting both and majority of the people not use it.

But, as the price comes down, it is possible that we will see more and more "Converged" phone. I know that Qualcomm, who provides all the baseband goes into the CDMA phones, have MSM7xxx chipsets that support multimode.
