Smile Make your own ringtones (All Vcast capable Samsungs or Motorolas)

This one is easier than what was needed for the e815 that i previously wrote about. The essential piece is that you need a sound clip of 30 seconds or less. You can either use Audio Surgeon, Nero or other editing software to chop up a full song or you can simply go to a bestbuy.com or other site that has 30 second preview clips that they allow you to download. How you get the 30 second clip saved to your computer is irrelevent, the next step is the important one.

Every verizonwireless number gets generated two email addresses automatically your 10 digit phone number @vtext.com and your 10 digit phone number @vzwpix.com the difference of course being one is for email and one is for pix/flix messages. This allows you to email and picture or text message right to someone's phone which could probably be in a seperate tips section itself but i'll combine them in the interest of saving space.

What you need to do is go on your home email, whatever it is and address an email to your ten digit phone number @vzwpix.com (example 7275555123@vzwpix.com). Next, select the button to add an attachment and select your 30 second clip (must be in MIDI or mp3 format). Send the pix message.

It will take a minute for your message to reach the phone. If after 5 minutes it doesn't reach, resend the message. Here is the only tricky part. If your phone has a memory card in it, remove it before you read the pix message.

When the message comes through, view it. It should play the song on your phone. Press the options button and elect to save music/sound or whatever similar option your phone may have. This is why taking out the card is important. At this step it will try as a default to save the clip to your card. If it saves to your card, you can not set it as a ring tone. If you remove the card it needs to save to the phone to complete the request and saves the 30 second clip in "MY SOUNDS" folder.

Finally, go to my sounds folder, select the sound you just sent yourself, press option -> set as -> ringtone. Thats it! you are set. I have tried this with the RAZR V3C, RAZR V3M, KRZR K1M, Samsung a990 and a930 and know it works. I welcome you to try it with other models and get back to me to let me know what other phones will benifit from this method.

Wow. That's pretty easy to add the ringtones to your phone.

My phone at the moment is not VCAST capable so I'll wait for my next phone to try this.

Hey, it worked!!

I had harder time finding a 30second mp3 files. I went to Amazon and they have the samples in either .asx or real player format. I downloaded .asx, found a converter to convert it to mp3 file.

Sent an e-mail to my number@vzwpix.com with the mp3 file attachement. Once I received and clicked on view, it started playing the song. I pressed stop the song, pressed Option to choose Save, then saved as Sound. I went to the settings to choose my ringer and the file I received as available. I called my own phone to verify and it worked.

Great tip!!!

I also noticed that the sound quality isn't that great but I was just happy that I was able to do it.

I just tried this, and it took me about 3 minutes start to finsh. Worked like a charm!

I noticed that the sound quality is not great as well, but I have not tweaked the file formats. Plus, I was loading the Monty Python theme song, so that scratchy old-school vibe has a certain charm to it.

Thanks for the tip!

Default Ringtone Trouble

I have a V-Cast capable Samsung A930 and was really excited to try this since the ringtones that come with the phone aren't so hot.

I've e-mailed the 30-second mp3 to my phone and recieved it as a Pix-Flix message, but when I save the sound, it saves to the My Sounds folder as a ".qcp" file (the same as when you record sounds on the phone) and doesn't have the Set As->Ringtone option you mentioned available.

Any suggestions? Thanks...

It looks like Verizon has disabled MP3 from Samsung A930.

Here are some hints that you may or may not find useful.

--
Q: Thats great, but I want to play MP3's!
A: You can convert the ones you want to play on the phone into WMA's with dbPowerAmp (What I do). You can also go into the second level hidden menu and play MP3's that way (Menu -> Settings & Tools -> # -> 0000000 -> 0 -> 8886573982 -> MP3)

Q: Thats an ***-backward way to play MP3's! Can you unlock the MP3 player so I don't have to do all that?
A: I know, but Verizon disabled the MP3 player! I have tried the unlocking steps in here (just use the 950 profile - it works) - everything works ok when you're opening the menu and unlocking the hidden menu, but there is no option anywhere to enable the MP3 player!

Q: What hidden menus are there and what are the access codes?
A: Note menus 3 and 4 and maybe 5 are only available after you unlock them - see previous question on how to do that.
1. Menu -> Settings & Tools -> # -> 0000000
2. Menu -> Settings & Tools -> # -> 0000000 -> 0 -> 8886573982
3. Menu -> Get it now -> 0 -> (last 4 digits of your number)
4. Menu -> Get it now -> # -> (last 4 digits of your number)
5. Messaging -> Settings -> Pix-Flix -> * -> 930667
