Samsung flipshot review
THE LOOK 9 out of 10
Out the box,the Samsung flip shot is a beautiful phone. You will notice that the build quality is Very good! The rotating display is top notch! Its a lot stronger then the u740's. I was lucky enough to get the red one from best buy,The luck is nice with the bright red trimmed in chrome with the chrome bezel around the camera (which bothered me a little bit) but more on that later.
POWER ME UP 8 out of 10
Powering up the flipshot was just like all other phones but now verizon as added this new loading like splash screen that looks pretty special kinda like a windows device when turned on the first time.
THE SCREEN 9 out of 10
The screen was great a 2.2inch 262,144 18 bit TFT display with good color and a decent refresh rate for vcast videos and camera photos!
SOUND 3 out of 10
The Flipshot has dual speakers. They are placed on each side of the phones spine and the sound produced by them is better then avg!though not as loud as the Env. The ear peice on the other hand was rather disappointing. Voice was very loud but but it sounded like the person on the other side was talking through a paper bag. Voice reproduction was a 3 out of 10 tops not very good.
Keypad 7 out of 10
The keypad is much better then it looks, keys are spaced out well with good feedback when texting. There are also rubber lines the Separate the keys on the pad in which I do like but they leave smudges on the screen and I dont like that.
CAMERA 5 out of 10
The flipshot comes with a 3mp camera with auto focus though the auto focus does more harm then help on those quick shots. The camera to me was not all it was built up to be. I mean I've taken better pix with my razr v9m or lg8550. I was not Impressed at all. The back of the phone looks just like a camera, once you turn the display it turns on the camera. The bezel around the camera is pointless! They could hvae just not put that on the back and just let the phone lay flat when placed on a table! The white balance seems to have a bug or its a big flaw because when in camera mode and white bal set to auto, you can watch the white bal change many times befor a shot is taken. With out the light changing? One thing I did like was the zoom for pics that are stored on the phone or memory card. Once you zoom in using the vol toggle all you have to do is move the phone! kinda like the WII,The camera picks up the movement in your hand and that changes which part of the pic your viewing(awesome)!pix Can be printed via bluetooth printer (pic bridge) and videos can be played from the phones tv out but you have to buy another cable for that to work.
V-CAST VIDEO,MUSIC&MEMORY 7 OUT OF 10
The v-cast is just the same as other v-cast phones,I did notice I had more buffering the normal but video play was pretty good overall. The flipshot supports memory cards up to 8 gigs but that can change as larger cards come out using a firmware update.
BATTERY LIFE 6 out of 10
Battery life was not bad on the flip shot,I charged it the first time I got it and used it the next day as I would use any of my phones (heavy) web use, about 30 text, tons of pix, video and I watched 4 csi full length shows. By the time I left work(8 hour shift) I had 1 bar left, I called the wife on the way home and it needed to be charged by the time I got home.Thats not bad by my standards. The next day I ran the phone on light use just 20 or so text a handfull of phone calls I check my myspace and email and sent four pix. In a 8 hour shift I still had a almost full battery dropping down 1 bar on my way home.
OVERALL THOUGHTS 7 out of 10
My overall thoughts are that I like the phone, though I wouldnt try to trade it for a standalone digi camera. The phone had great rf but bad call quallty, with ok pix and nice video. To me not worth the high price, there are much better camera phones out there for your money! If you just want to be that guy or girl with a good head turner then this phones for you! I hope this helps.
